Meet EarlySense – Terry Duesterhoeft

Terry Duesterhoeft, Chief Product & Commercial Officer

Tell me about your role and what you do at EarlySense?  I am EarlySense Chief Product and Commercial Officer, where I lead the development and execution of our product and commercial strategies worldwide.

When and why did you join EarlySense?  I joined EarlySense in July of 2020. I have spent the last 16 years in telehealth and remote patient monitoring working to apply technology to enable the center of healthcare to follow the patient wherever they are. When I was first approached by EarlySense I immediately saw the potential in their technology and how their vision for contact free, continuous monitoring coupled with data science aligned well with my own. I have always believed that passive, continuous monitoring of a range of vital signs and biometrics, coupled with AI to enable this data to actually be usable, was one of the necessary enablers for true virtual care. I truly believe that EarlySense has the building blocks to make this happen.

What do you enjoy most about your role?  To be able to work in a global company, with amazingly talented people all focused on the idea of making virtual care a reality for patients worldwide. Then to be able to introduce the markets and industry I know so well to this sea change is incredibly exciting. Finally, to be able to innovate with AI and machine learning and apply it to take remote monitoring to a different level at such a pivotal time in its development.

What do you enjoy most about working in Med Tech?  At the highest level I most enjoy the ability to continuously apply new technology to help digital health transform healthcare. I have had the opportunity to bring many cool and impactful new Med Tech products to market and EarlySense gives me that opportunity again, plus the ability to work with an even wider array of new technologies. Especially now to apply AI to remote patient monitoring is an awesome opportunity.

What has been your biggest learning experience since starting at EarlySense? I have been incredibly fortunate to have been deeply involved in developing innovative products and services across a wide range of healthcare markets and segments, and with teams all over the world. Then to have been able to help launch them and see how they have impacted people’s lives has been gratifying. But in joining EarlySense in the midst of the COVID pandemic, I have had to take everything I have learned and now to develop teams, processes, plans and execution but without ever meeting the majority of people I work with.

What do you like to do outside of work – what are your passions?  Outside of work, my wife and I love to travel and are especially passionate about skiing. We try to maximize the time we spend in the winter at our cabin near Lake Tahoe or using our Ikon pass somewhere else. Being in Northern California we are spoiled with so many things to do and explore with our friends. But with three kids, the youngest a senior in college, and none of them near us, we most of all enjoy the time spent with them and their families.
